Volunteer Coach Application

Ionia Public Schools believes that volunteer coaches are essential to the success of the Ionia Athletic Program and we appreciate your willingness to work with our student-athletes .  It is our mission to develop individual and team potential by promoting high standards of character, community, and competition, while ensuring their safety.

Therefore, all volunteer coaches working with any of our student-athletes must complete our volunteer application process.  Each volunteer who wishes to apply must complete a DHS Central Registry Clearance Request and have an I.P.S. background check conducted in collaboration with the Michigan State Police data bank ICHAT.  The information on the attached application is required as it will provide the necessary information for us to ensure our student-athletes safety.  All volunteers are verified for one calendar school year from July 1st to June 31st .  Please complete each step below and know that this process may take several weeks.

Steps:

  1. Complete a Department of Human Services Central Registry Clearance Request form (1929) and submit it to the local DHS (920 East Lincoln Avenue, Ionia).
  2. Pick up and return the DHS response to your request to the athletic department office. (This response may take up to two weeks to process if you wait for them to mail it.)
  3. Complete the Ionia Public Schools Volunteer Application and turn in with your DHS response to the athletic department office. (1 person per application)
  4. You will be notified by the head coach who is recommending you as a volunteer if you are approved.
