In a close meet with several really good races, the Ionia varsity girls swim team lost by a single point. The girls fought hard to swim their best, earning 21 personal best times and 3 more season best times, in spite of being tired and sore from some tough training this week. The leadership of the the seniors helped to bring energy to the team as everyone cheered hard for the swimmers in the water.
The team of Courtney Lepien, Pauli Marker, Alina Dueren and Shelly Reglin took first in the 200 yard Medley relay.
Lepien took first in the 200 yard freestyle and second in the 100 yard freestyle, both with season best times.
Dueren took first in the 200 yard individual medley and the 500 yard freestyle, both with personal best times.
Shelly Reglin and Brynn Lepien took first and second in the 100 yard butterfly,.
The relay team of Reglin, Anna Winters, Jillian Merrifield and Aleyse Edwards took first in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Winters took first in the 100 yard backstroke.
Reglin and Marker took 2nd and 3rd in the 100 yard breaststroke, both with personal best times.
The team of Courtney Lepien, Brynn Lepien, Marker & Dueren took first in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
The Ionia Varsity Girls will host 2 home meets next week, Wednesday and Thursday, both at 6:00 p.m. Go Bulldogs!
