The Ionia Middle School Boys Cross Country team had the privilege of competing in Portage at the annual Portage Invitational. There were 49 teams and 668 runners that competed in the middle school boys race. Our team performed very well, and have much to be proud of.

Our HERO XC runners finished 19th in this race. Jacob Montgomery received a medal for finishing 42th in the race. He finished the 2.5K race with a 9:18 time! Along with Jacob, Arturo Oliveros (9:37), Tyson Evans (10:20), Christian Negrete (10:20), and Alex Bushee (10:50) scored for our team.

It was thrilling to watch these boys give their ALL in this race. Jacob Montgomery was in 52nd place at the mile, picking off 10 runners in the last half mile! Christian Negrete was in 190th place at the mile, but finished in 165th place! Gage Flanner (11:26) passed 4 runners in the last half mile! Miles Gregory (11:31) picked off 22 runners in the last portion of the race! Brett Montgomery passed 24 runners, and Gavin Possehn passed 63 runners. Such a strong finish for these boys.

If this had been a 2 mile race, Jacob Montgomery, Arturo Oliveros, and Alex Bushee would have achieved a personal record. Jacob (12:00); Arturo (12:26); and Alex (14:00).

Congratulations, runners!
