Ionia was able to win an evenly matched game against St. Johns Thursday night. They were able to outscore St. Johns 9-5 in overtime to get the win.

Ionia B-team won 30-24.

Volleyball:

Traverse City West’s Anika Dy was named Miss Golf for the second time by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association – Traverse City Record-Eagle

 

Cross Country:

Coldwater’s Shuaib Aljabaly and Lansing Catholic’s Olivia Theis were named Mr. Cross Country and Miss Cross County, respectively, by the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association – Coldwater Daily Reporter

3. Gaylord sophomore Grace Wambier is a school record holder and hopes to add to her accomplishments at the Division 3 Finals – Gaylord Herald Times

Game Recap

It was a tough night for both teams. The A team started off strong in the first quarter but struggled in the second. That led them to fight from behind the entire night. They didn’t give up but did fall short in the end. Leading scores were Clay Currigan with 11 points and Lane Thomas with 8.

The B team lost 19-59.

Game Recap

This was the first game of the year for the Ionia Bulldogs. The boys jumped out to a 9 point lead at halftime 18-9. They continued to keep their lead throughout the game winning 36-28. Leading scorers were Clay Currigan with 8 points and Kia Beard with 7.

The B team played a solid game but came up short 31-34.

Ionia found themselves down 10 a couple times throughout the game and always managed to scrap their way back. They cut the lead to 2 at one point in the 4th. Unfortunately they weren’t able to get back all the way, and fell by 4.

B- team played a very solid game, winning 33-14.

Meet Recap

The Ionia High School girls traveled to Mason for the 2-day CAAC Red Conference Championship, won by Waverly-Lansing Catholic, with a score of 418.5. After 14 personal best times and 4 additional season best times during preliminaries on Friday, the Ionia girls were in a good position to head into today’s finals.

The team narrowly took 4th place with a score of 264.5, beating Mason by only a half point (with 264). Ionia had finishers in the top 8 in 11 out of the 12 events. Highlights include:

Courtney Lepien finished 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle and 3rd in the 50 yard freestyle, earning medals in both of her events
Paige Lynch finished 4th in the 200 Individual Medley and 6th in the 500 yard freestyle
Shelly Reglin finished 5th in the 100 yard breaststroke and 6th in the 200 Individual Medley
Aleyse Edwards finished 6th in the 100 yard butterfly and 8th in the 200 yard freestyle
Anna Winters finished 6th in the 100 yard backstroke

The relay team of Lynch, Reglin, Lepien and Winters took 4th in the Medley relay, shaving 6 seconds off their seed time.
The relay team of Jillian Merrifield, Katie Chambers, Lillianna Matusiak, and Aleyse Edwards finished 5th in the 200 yard freestyle relay, shaving 6 seconds off their seed time.
The relay team of Lepien, Edwards, Winters and Lynch took 4th in the 400 yard freestyle relay, shaving an impressive 14 seconds off their seed time.

In all there were 23 personal best times earned today alone, with an additional 3 season best times. Paige Lynch, Courtney Lepien, Anna Winters, and Jenna Gould all had best times in every event they swam today. In the prelims yesterday, Jillian Merrifield had best times in every event she swam.

The Varsity girls swim team had an impressive end to the season, which was noticed by area coaches.
