Multiple Teams · January and February Independent Bank Athletes of the Month


It has been a crazy couple of months with all of the cancellations and it has put us behind schedule in recognizing our athletes of the month.  Below are the January and February Independent Bank Athletes of the Month.

Congratulations to Cole Cudney and Ashlyn May who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for January.  Both student-athletes were recognized at the high school student awards ceremony on Wednesday, February 21st after cancelling the ceremony 3 weeks in a row because of weather.   Independent Bank representative Boomer Hoppough was on hand to present each athlete their certificate.  Each student-athlete now qualifyies for a chance to win the Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented at senior night to one male and one female athlete.

Cole was nominated by varsity wrestling coach Luke Smalley, who praised him for his work ethic and leadership he has provided the wrestling progam.  Also, noting that Cole had reached the 100 win milestone while qualifying for the MHSAA Individual State Finals at the Fremont regional.  Ashlyn was nominated by varsity girls basketball  coach Scott Pischea who praised her for her senior leadership and tying the school record for 3’s made in a game with 9.

Congratulations to Micah Groom and Tabbitha Martin who were named Independent Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for February.  Both student-athletes were recognized by Independent Bank representative Jennifer Dinehart at Thursday’s student awards ceremony.  Each student-athlete now qualifyies for a chance to win the Independent Bank Student-Athlete of the Year scholarship presented at senior night to one male and one female athlete.

Groom was nominated by varsity boys basketball coach Scott Swinehart, who praised him not only for his committment to the boys basketball program but also to the athletic program as a future Block I award winner.  Martin was nominated by girls bowling coach Ron Farlin, who praised her for her leadership and work ethic.

Cudney, May, Groom, and Martin have not only been successful in athletics but in the classrooom as well, and serve as great role models for our younger athletes.  Congratulations to all of them for being recognized as the Independent Bank male and female student-athletes of the month for January and February.
