Boys Varsity Track, Girls Varsity Track · Frost, Waterman, and Frisbie Qualify for Track State Finals

The Ionia Track and Field teams were given 3 Goals by their coaches for the Regional Meet held at Mason High School; 1. Qualify for State (easier said than done for some), 2. Place in the top 8 positions and earn a MHSAA Regional Medal, and / or 3. Earn a P.R.  They had a combination of all 3 on the day.
On the Boys side; Riley Frisbie qualified for the state meet in the 400 by finishing second in a time of 51.96.
Other medals for Ionia came from Raven Groce, 5th in the Long Jump with a jump of 20′-6.5″ Just 1.5″ short of meeting the additional Qualifying Standard for the State Meet.
The 4 x 400 Relay team of Zakk Hensley, Malachi Davis, Raven Groce, and Riley Frisbie finished 3rd with a time of 3:32.31 a PR by 5 seconds.  The 4 x 800 Relay Team of Zakk Hensley, Nick Brown, Colin Listerman and Tyree Dunbar finished 8th with a time of 8:51.40.   The Ionia boys earned PR’s in a total of 8 events.
On the Girls side of things;  they had two state qualifiers this year; Abby Frost in the Discus, finishing  3rd with throw of 111′-0″ an Additional Qualifying throw greater than the AQ standard (108′-3″) and Morgan Waterman finished 3rd in the Pole Vault with a jump of  9′-6″,  6″ greater than the Additional Qualifying height.  Other Medalists included, Ally Diebel in the 3200 run with a time of 12:25.41,  Abby Christensen finished 6th in the High Jump with a jump of 4′-7″, and Emily Petersen 8th in the 400 with a time of 1:06.07.  The Girls earned PR’s in a total of 6 events.
